I had never given any thought to taglines until it came to creating one for this website. A tagline, like a slogan, aims to describe something in a brief and attention-getting way. In addition to being interesting and concise, my research suggested, it also should promise something. And so, I jotted down a few clumsy ideas indicative of just how hard I was trying to be clever. Trying too hard.
In my web searches, I stumbled across some examples of really effective taglines (thank you, by the way, google and youtube, you both continue to teach me so much), and realized that the examples I especially liked highlighted the purpose of the sites they belonged to. Which got me thinking about my own reasons for this site. My reasons for doing my art again.
I took a break from art to pursue and take care of things that, for me, are more important. These pursuits are still important to me. Because of that, my art is now something I have to plan and make time for. I have to be more thoughtful about it. I’m more selective about my subject matter and processes because, honestly, I just don’t have the resources not to be thoughtful about it. I’m realizing now as I return to my art that what makes my art relevant and special are the things I do while away from it.
So, my tagline for now is, “Trying to make some moments last longer than that”. I explain this in more detail in the about statement in the footer of my pages, and a little in my artist’s statement. Hopefully, my art and this site will shine a spotlight on, and preserve, the things that inspire them.
I’m enjoying art-ing around again.
